Women Are Now Choosing Against Having Kids In The Face Of Climate Change

For the people who do not believe that global warming is real, it is very real. Global warming is so real that women are actually reconsidering having children.

They’re asking themselves if it is even worth having a child that won’t be able to enjoy the simple things in life.

Simple things include going to the zoo and seeing a giraffe’s long neck, scuba diving with the exotic fish, or even showing a picture of a polar bear that is alive!

According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the fertility rate in the United States fell to its lowest level in the first three months of 2016.

This rate is only predicted to decrease even more in the following year as more and more as the conditions of the earth worsen.

While it is bad enough that our fertility rate is falling, there are doubters like Donald Trump who could use his power to help Earth’s situation but instead, choose to play down the dangers of global warming.

Donald Trump once tweeted “the concept of global warming was created by and for the Chinese in order to make US manufacturing non-competitive”

No Trump, the Chinese are not responsible for global warming, we human beings are.

The cause of global warming is the emission of carbon dioxide, or CO2, into the atmosphere. As the atmosphere traps CO2, the earth become warmer and is responsible for the weather changes.

Results from a 2008 study conducted by Oregon State University show that every time you have a child, 9,441 additional metric tons of carbon is released out in the air.

The study looks at certain behaviors we can do to reduce our carbon footprint, like recycling.

Unfortunately, recycling does not make up the amount of CO2 we let out when we have a child; recycling plastics, glass, and newspapers will only save the earth 17 metric tons of carbon emissions.

“The way we live currently simply cannot sustain more people,” Harriet Spark, a diver instructor in Sydney Australia tells Broadly.

Harriet Spark chooses not to have a child, as the state of the planet is so dire.

Nonprofits like Conceivable Future are making sure that their reproductive freedom is ensured. To ensure the safety of their future kids, there are important issues that need to be resolved.

Conceivable Future wants, “women-led network of Americans bringing awareness to the threat climate change poses to reproductive justice, and demanding an end to US fossil fuel subsidies.”

Conceivable Future brings awareness by holding events in small places so it’s as interactive as possible.

Younger women might have a better chance of having their voices heard because they are the future. They are the ones who have to make this frightful decision of choosing to have a kid or not.

Men on the other hand, are less concerned with this issue. Instead, they believe that women are being selfish for making this decision. They’re asking “What about us who want kids?”

It is hard to have a kid knowing what their future already holds, and it’s not good.
