If you don’t have a mantra going into 2017, the oldest yoga teacher in the world at 98, Tao Porchon-Lynch, has one for you,
“Anything is possible; nothing’s impossible. When you wake up every morning, say, ‘this is going to be the best day of my life,’ and it will be.”
This yogi is the newest face of Athleta’s Power of She campaign.
“The power of she is a movement encouraging women and girls to come together to lift each other up and realize our limitless potential. Alone we are strong, united we thrive.”
Tao has been practicing Yoga for 70 years even after being told in 1926 “Girls don’t do yoga.” Her response was, “If boys can do it, I can do it!”
Tao is not alone representing the campaign, she is standing with her partner in crime or “spiritual partner” Dr. Terri Kennedy. On Kennedy’s website, her title is “A Harvard-trained Strategist, former Media Executive and Certified Professional Coach.”
In an interview for this campaign, Terry says that their relationship was meant to be.
“There was an instant energetic connection between me and Tao – like a magnet drawing us together. I felt it when our eyes met in that first yoga workshop. Then, Tao said, ‘I want to know you.’ That sealed it.”
Terri’s story is also amazing and empowering. 20 years ago, she experienced a near-death experience with Crohn’s Disease. Terri used her experience working with Tao to help her overcome her struggle, which only made her stronger.
“I believe we’re each here to contribute something special. Sometimes your struggle leads to your purpose. My ‘thorn in the flesh’ – an unbalanced stressed out life — has become the gift I share. I love to see people heal and step into their own light. My own journey is relatable to anyone who has ever worked to overcome anything.”
Both of these women are inspiring and deserve to be part of Athleta’s campaign. They now travel the world teaching yoga and instilling positivity in women’s lives.
