What’s more annoying than waiting on line at the grocery store? Nothing, the long line at the grocery store is the most time-consuming and troublesome part of grocery shopping. Amazon Go was created for this very reason. Say hello to the future of grocery shopping!
Amazon is going all out to be the sole source for literally everything; a source to watch your favorite movies/show, to shop for your Christmas presents, and now grocery shopping.
After several rumors of Amazon opening a brick and mortar store, the day has finally come. Amazon has brilliantly figured out a way to utilize the technology that is found in the self-driving cars: computer vision, sensor fusion and deep learning in our food shopping process.
They call it “Just Walk Out Technology.” That 20-minute wait on line just went to a 3 step process from 0 to 100 real quick!
The process is just as simple as the name suggests. “Just Walk Out”. Amazon provides a promo video of exactly how it is done.
You start by downloading the Amazon Go app on a smartphone. From there you enter an Amazon brick and mortar store and shop like you normally would. The store will contain everything a normal grocery store would have. According to Amazon,
“We offer delicious ready-to-eat breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snack options made fresh every day by our on-site chefs and favorite local kitchens and bakeries. “
Remember the excuse that you used to use, “I’m late because there was a long line to get breakfast in the morning.” There is no more reason for you to be late!
The smart technology makes it possible to keep track of what you take off the shelf and what you put back. As you take items off the shelf, it is added to your virtual cart. You are then billed with a receipt on the app.
Walk in. Choose Item. Walk out.
Amazon Go is currently located at 2131 7th Ave in Seattle, WA, on the corner of 7th Avenue and Blanchard Street. As of now it is only open to employees for testing but, coming early 2017, Amazon Go will be public!
